CIA Residencies :
For 2010 pvi collective will host three companies at cia. This residency program has been developed with the goal of supporting artists in the process of developing their practice, as opposed to being focussed solely on the creation of an end product, and for this process not to happen in isolation, but for it to be informed, invigorated and challenged by other practitioners, thereby building a strong culture of conceptual criticality and peer support.. Companies will occupy CIA Studios 1, 2, 3 & 5.

Residencies are assessed by a National Curatorial Committee ensuring a wide scope of applications, increased criticality and depth of exploration regarding interdisciplinary practice is being undertaken at CIA.

pvi collective

during their ten yr history, pvi’s eclectic cross-artform practice has seen the creation of live artworks, street interventions, radio broadcasts, privacy services, dvd rentals, bus tours and sculptural installations. their artworks have sought to question various forms of social control that we live under in an increasingly anxious cultural climate, often offering up darkly humorous survival tactics for living in a panoptic 21st century.

Hydra Poesis
Sam Fox, Aimee Smith, Tomas Ford

Based at CIA for 2 years Hydra makes hybrid performance involving theatre, live media, bodyart and dance and installation. In 2010 they will be contributing to cia's program by launching their Masters of Nothing program, a process driven peer review initiative for emerging artists. At CIA Hydra are currently developing the multi-locational theatre work Prompter Live Studio, a new video work for Next Wave, and new performance work Personal Political Physical Challenge that premiers in July 2010.

Aimee Smith

Aimee's practise addresses contemporary social issues and incorporates dance with multiple disciplines including theatre, sound composition and digital media in traditional and non traditional environments through collaboration with other artists. During her residency Aimee will be working towards participation in 'the Arctic Circle Project', an artist and scientist-led expedition to the high arctic in october. Aimee is fascinated with how theatre, sound composition, digital media and non-traditional performance environments intersect with the moving, dancing body.

Ololo

Ololo are three like minded friends who have operated as an artistic production group since 2001. They work across the fields of software development, web technologies and electronics and in recent years have produced a series of large scale works in public spaces both diverse in medium and context. During their residency at CIA, Ololo will be conducting research and development towards hardware and software-based systems for installation and interactive performance including infra red tools for a digital graffiti system and prototyping multi-touch surfaces. Friend of Ololo, Jerrem Lynch, also joins them for the year.

CIA studios supports five principal streams of activity:

1. 3 x 12 month residencies – open call
2. self initiated residencies
3. creative labs – curated by pvi collective
4. project spaces – open to artists and groups and available for periods of between 1 and 3 months
5. short term hires - for periods of between 1 day and four weeks

16.4m by 6.0m this is a massive rehearsal room with wooden floors and a built in viewing balcony making it a workable space that allows a variety of uses.

SPACE SPECS

The larger of the two studio classrooms CIA Studio 4 is open plan with good natural light and window shutters making it a flexible workspace. Ideally suited for individual or small to medium sized companies

A two-roomed studio equipped with sound proofing, ideal for small to medium sized group or self initiated residency.

This space is block booked for 3 months of the year to allow for national and international residencies, but is available for booking outside of these times.
