R&d Project Title: Alone & Lonely
Residency Dates: Nov 2008 - Jan 2009

Faced with the continuing dominance of social networking spaces online (such as Facebook or Myspace) Jason will be drawn into a dark faceless world where humans are intent on dividing themselves from fleshy contact in favour of a less confrontational ‘online profiles’ where the act of “adding” as many anonymous friends/strangers is the norm, providing new realms of peer pressure and social dysfunction.

Jason will spend 3 months developing a live sound performance-installation work, a web-based sonic ‘confessional’ space and a series of short music-video pieces using solicited recorded interviews with ‘private users’ of social networking sites, fictional personas, found sounds/visuals and field recordings.

Whether it be a work made online, an electronic sound-score for live performance or recording, a live art presentation or installation, Jason’s interest lies here: in challenging notions of intimacy and distance, desire and loss, melancholy and musicality.
